No matter what Country or State I have worked in – the one thing that clients have in common is… is nerves! Especially in that first initial session. For me, I can deal with this comfortably these days. I know for a fact, without any question at all, that when someone finishes their sessions with me that they will have an excellent Scalp Micropigmentation result. The nerves? They are just part of the process and the doubts are just temporary – every time.

What do you say to make someone less nervous? How do you settle the nerves?
Actually, I do nothing. I hope that my confidence in my work will rub off on the client, being refreshingly honest and friendly will help too. But from experience, I’ve seen the benefits of nerves and they can absolutely be a good thing. Nerves are natural, this is on your scalp. Apart from the actual face – it’s probably the part of our body which is hardest to hide away from friends, colleagues, and the general public. So your SMP needs to be done right, and right first time. In fact, dealing with nervous clients is important, and as a result is something I cover on my training course: www.scalpp.com/scalp-micropigmentation-training

I always tell students that I am more worried about clients who aren’t nervous. Why? Nervous clients have usually done the research, lots. That worry is often the motivation someone needs to watch every youtube video out there, read every forum and review, and more importantly – dig deeper and not just looking at what a company wants them to see.

It’s important, however, to not assume anything. Your Technician may have a different way of doing the treatment, and the more experienced Technicians have usually developed their own little way of achieving the best results. So ask your technician every question you have, write em all down (as you will forget during consultation).

Not only that but with research, most people will have the right expectations. They will know this is not a 1 treatment process. It is not going to look like the photos and videos you see after 1 session, it will take 2 sessions and a 3rd or even a 4th to add in those obsessive details that I like. They will know the importance of the aftercare, and reiterated by the Technician, would have made sufficient arrangements in their lifestyle to avoid heavy sweating for a while.

When I had my treatment done, SMP was still relatively unknown and HIS Hair Clinic (who I later went on to work for) was the only company producing consistent results. Now there is a lot more out there in terms of companies and content. And this is key. The number one thing that you can control is who the Technician is. And the great part – the single most important factor in receiving a natural result is who your Technician is.

The first session is the hardest. After this, you’re on the journey. You have now seen it on your head with your own eyes rather than looking at other people with SMP online. Now you will have a much clearer image of what the final treatment will resemble and you are one step closer to leaving hair loss behind.

Good luck all, even if you don’t choose me for your treatment – I am more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about SMP. Just use the contact form on our website and I’ll get back to you asap.
